Last week, our Growth Lead spent time with learners at EldoHub during one of their weekly Academy Sessions. These sessions bring together students from EldoHub’s Digital, Tech, and AI programs for practical, industry-connected learning that goes beyond the classroom.
Instead of a theoretical discussion, the session focused on simulating API integrations with payment gateways — the same challenges developers face when building production-ready applications.
Learners worked through authentication, handling callbacks, testing endpoints, and thinking through edge cases. They engaged directly with the kinds of systems businesses rely on every day to accept and manage payments across MPESA, banks, and other channels.
It was a reminder that the fastest way to grow as a developer is to build with real tools and real constraints.
While the technical work was valuable, the biggest takeaway from the session was not about code.
Build what users need, not just what you think is cool.
The best technology solves real problems. Great developers take the time to understand the people they are building for before writing the first line of code. That mindset — curiosity about the user, clarity about the problem, and discipline in execution — is what creates lasting impact.
